3.3.10. PRACTICAL ACTIVITY

The use of assessment rubrics helps students to be more aware of the competences they need to develop and how these will be assessed. These rubrics can be pre-defined by the teacher and can also be negotiated with students to increase their engagement with the learning outcomes.

  • Select a specific learning activity and define the criteria and indicators that may use to assess the students’ learning;
  • Revise the criteria to better adjust to the learning outcomes (if needed);
  • Decide if the assessment rubrics are going to be used for summative or formative assessment (including, for instance, the students’ self-regulation);
  • Create the assessment rubrics using your LMS or another digital tool (e.g., Rubric Maker, at https://rubric-maker.com/);
  • Consider the advantages and disadvantages of negotiating the criteria with the students beforehand.
