As boas práticas no âmbito da avaliação de portfólios centram-se nas reflexões dos estudantes. Uma prova de que os alunos estão em sintonia com os resultados esperados, o portfólio, seja em papel ou em formato electrónico (e-portfólio), deve exibir pontos fortes e fracos com base nos componentes seleccionados e reflexões derivadas dos mesmos.
