Distributed Cognition

4. Three kinds of distributed

Researchers from the Distributed Cognition perspective highlighted the role of people's tools, their social organization and the cultural context in the process of cognition. Distributed cognition researchers are looking for ways in which cognition is distributed in the computational system.
They point out three ways in which it can be distributed:
  1. Between internal and external representations.
  2. Between all members of the social group.
  3. Over time, so that the results of previous events could change the nature of subsequent events.

Cognitive artefacts:
  1. Reduces memory load;
  2. Simplify cognitive efforts;
  3. Captures changes;
  4. Turns the task to different one.
