Unit 4. Regional particularities

4.1. Moral rights and duration

The moral rights have traditionally been focused in Europe. Other countries, such as the U.S.A. did not have this tradition as the patrimonial rights were the focus. However, the concept of moral rights has been increasingly embodied in the laws of most countries.

The 70 year duration of rights is currently standardised in the European Copyright Directive, but other countries may have a different duration.
