3. Distinctive features
We can summarize following distinct features for distributed cognition.
- The limits of the unit of cognition. The unit of analysis is expanded from what is
going on inside the human mind, including the entire system that achieves the
calculations.
- Mechanisms that are considered as cognitive processes. The range of mechanisms that are considered as
cognitive processes from mental processes to physical and social interactions
is expanded.
- Extension of cognitive science models outside the individual. A review of physical artefacts and social organization, as well as cognitive activity support. Not only coordination and communication between individuals, but also a problem-solving system.
