Technology has greatly impacted the metal sector industry in the past few years. One of the most important changes has been the proliferation of Web 2.0 and the effect that social media has had on influencing which professionals utilize extensively. In fact, social media play a larger role in grabbing and sharing experiences in professional decision-making process.
Facebook is, as usual, the platform of choice, with more than two-thirds (67 percent) of engineers favoring that channel, ahead of LinkedIn (43 percent), Google+ (33 percent) and Twitter (22 percent).
Learning is cited as the main reason for using social media, and 60 percent of engineers use these tools to help find new products or solutions.
Efficient use of software is also linked to Web 2.0 infrastructure, which allows you to locate the appropriate one by facilitating your search with others’ input.

  • ICT

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve several billion users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (www), the infrastructure to support email, and peer-to-peer networks .
Internet surely can be used for example to communicate with partners, colleagues, friends, search for new information, new job, publish publications, advertising, etc.
Internet network users can use: online communication services, e-mail services, World Wide Web services, information search services, videoconferencing services, e-commerce services, application tools, distant learning and many more.

  • WEB 2.0

Web 2.0 is a second generation in the development of the World Wide Web, conceived as a combination of concepts, trends, and technologies that focus on user collaboration, sharing of user-generated content, and social networking . It is necessary to point out that technological progress is a key factor of modern metal sector industry. Web 2.0 technology has changed fundamentally the very nature of e-discussions in metal sector. General characteristics of Web 2.0 discussion tools are openness, freedom and collective intelligence.
It is a loosely defined term for web applications that go beyond displaying individual pages of static content and allow a community of users to interact with the site and each other by adding or updating the content.

  • Software

Production engineer must use efficient software to facilitate production process. Selection of software should be done by considering the all plant and production details for the best electronic support.

Internet gives again huge options to select the right software for storage and maintenance control. Production engineer should decide on needs prior to updating and/or renewal of the software. Main consideration should focus on improvement of efficiency and cost/benefit ratio. First parameter to decide is, if the software will be installed in factory computers or it will be Web (cloud) based. Installed software are paid one time license fee, then future upgrades are supplied against a fee. On contrary, Web (cloud) based software are usually on rental basis changing from monthly to annually.
